Dear All,
Some blatant advertising for the new research grants available from the
Birds Australia VicGroup. These awards are only available to Victorian
students and were funded by proceeds arising from the 1998 Victorian
Twitchathon.
Regards
Stuart Dashper
VicGroup Conservation Officer.
The VicGroup of Birds Australia invites applications for financial support
from postgraduate students at Victorian Universities and Colleges.
Preference will be given to supporting postgraduate students at an early
stage of their research program.
Typically, grants of $500-1,500 will be awarded for the support of
field-based research projects for a period of one year. Grants for
research projects may be renewable for a second year provided that
satisfactory progress is maintained and reports are submitted on time.
Grants are made on the strict understanding that funds will be exempt from
University or College administration charges. The closing date for the 1999
round of grant applications is 30/8/99.
The VicGroup Research Grants for 1999 will be restricted to projects
involving the study of woodland birds of Victoria. This includes bird
species that are resident in, or migrate to, the Box-Ironbark woodlands of
Victoria. Applications in the following areas of research are encouraged:
> Field work on Woodland birds designed to gain an understanding of their
behaviour and
ecology.
> Conservation biology of threatened native birds and management of their
habitat.
