A request for list members
Another request for observations and opinions on the conservation status of
Diamond Firetails (Stagonopleura guttata) in south-eastern Australia
particularly SA, Victoria and ACT/NSW. I am examining the status of the
species to determine what if any decline has occurred in Victoria and
whether it is also declining in nearby states.
I invite observers to contact me directly with any observations of the
species which have NOT already been forwarded to the Atlas of Victorian
Wildlife or the new Atlas of Australian Birds.
I am particularly interested in all observations from Gippsland and far
south-west Victoria, where it appears that the species is now only just
hanging on or is now locally extinct in several places. Also, any records
from south of the divide in Victoria are of interest as the species has
traditionally been recorded north of the Divide. If you have noted the
species in the past and found it now absent from the same locality I am
keen to hear from you (dates, locailty and numbers if possible).
If you have observations or opinions on the status of the species I am keen
to hear them.
Please contact me directly. I will post a summary of my findings to the
list.
Thanks in advance.
