The best parrot spot in inner Melbourne (by my reckoning
anyway) is an area between theYarra Bend Golf Course and
the Studley Park Boathouse (north side of the Yarra) - just
across the foot bridge. Depending on the time of the year
you can see the following:
Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo (rare)
Galah (uncommon)
Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (mod. common)
Gang Gang Cockatoo (rare)
Scaly-brested Lorikeet (uncommon)
Rainbow Lorikeet (abundant)
Mask Lorikeet (uncommon)
Purple-crowned Lorikeet (uncommon)
Crimson Rosella (rare)
Eastern Rosella (common)
Red-rumped Parrot (common)
Other birds of note include Brown Goshawk, Australian Hobby
(Little Falcon to some!), Peregrine, the odd Tawny
Frogmouth (roosting in the river red gums), Crested
Shrike-tit, Dusky Woodswallow, Red-browed Finch, and
notably a 'company' of Nankeen Night Heron (about ten
birds) roosting in the willows between the footbridge and
the boathouse.
