To Vicki and any other interested parties,
The Freckled Duck count at Lake Clarendon (SEQ) had risen to 15
by Saturday morning and they were present and correct at dusk. A few
Australasian Shovellers and Pink-eared Ducks were also there, with 250+
Pink-eared Ducks at a lagoon nearby.
There were many Hardheads on Lake Clarendon - the usual candidate for a
suspected Blue-billed Duck - together with many Pacific Black Duck, Grey
Teal and Australian Wood Duck. Both Plumed Whistling Ducks and Cotton Pygmy
Geese were on lagoons nearby. Note also that all three grebes have been
seen at Lake Clarendon recently.
Cheers - Trevor.
Re - " ... 8 Freckled Ducks at Lake Clarendon (near Gatton, west of
Brisbane, QLD) today, May 26th. Apparently these are the first arrivals of
the season. Close by was an immature Musk Duck ..."
"I passed this message on to my brother, Chris Parslow (unfortunately I was
tied up this weekend). Anyway, Chris was most grateful for the tip, and
spotted both musk and freckled ducks (both lifers for him).
He asked me to pass on a query -- he observed some ducks further out in the
lake, beyond the range of accurate identification with his binocs, which he
suspected might have been Blue-billed Ducks. Could any of the good folk
who've been to Lake Clarendon recently confirm?"
