It is virtually certain that the bird would have escaped (or been released)
from captivity. I seem to remember (from many years ago when I lived in
HK) that Diamond Doves were kept and bred in the HK Botanic Gardens aviary.
I do not know how common they are now in aviculture in HK or south China.
Another explanation is that it was a pet cage-bird that escaped from a ship
in the harbour.
