Returning from a trip to Killawarra and the Warby Ranges today we passed Lake Mokoan (all in north-eastern Victoria) and not for the first time I wondered why this apparently suitable freshwater lake is so extraordinarily devoid of waterfowl, indeed of waterbirds generally. Does anyone know the reason? Is it related to the blue-green algae blooms about which visitors are warned? Richard (PS Whatever the cause, it doesn't apply to Sulphur-crested Cockatoos because there were literally thousands roosting in the dead trees at dusk!) _____________________ From: Dr Richard Nowotny, Melbourne, Australia.
