Hal, 
Has asked me to let you all know that because of the large number of  
bookings already in place for AUGUST 99 there will be an extra pelagic  
trip this year on Saturday 7th AUGUST from Rose Bay.  The usual trip  
on the 14th is almost fully booked already. However there are still  
plenty of spots on the Wollongong trip on the 22nd August for those  
that have not made plans yet. 
 
Most of the time it is fairly easy to get a spot but this year it is 
clear that Pelagics between August and November are going to be  
particularly busy and one needs to book early.  All you need to do to  
make a booking is send an email and then remember to reconfirm.

Next by Date:  birding-aus Re Swallow problems I was at a Defence Force Seminar last week in Cairns and during the day we visited the Navy base at Trinity Inlet. In their totally covered dry dock facility - open at both ends and the size of a large jumbo jet hanger, they had a number of owl statues positioned at either entrance - high up. When questioned about these the officer said they were extremely successful at keeping the building free of all birds - and certainly there were none in there when I was there - and there were Welcome Swallows flying about outside. It's worth a try _ the statues were life-size (1 ft. in the old money!). If owls don't work, try a hawk!
