In her report from Eden (NSW) Barbara Jones mentions a sea-going whistling kite.
How often to these birds (whistling kites) head out to sea?
Last October I watched as a single whistling kite joined the jaegers which were harrassing a large flock of shearwaters about 1km off the southern tip of Gabo Island (eastern Vic).  The whistling kite made several strikes at shearwaters, silver gulls and terns before heading back towards the mainland empty taloned.
