Near Quandialla, between Grenfell and West Wyalong on the south-west slopes
of NSW (but, more importantly, about 300k west of Sydney...) on MOnday 6/4,
I saw an extraordinary aggregation of falcons.
In the same 'spiral', perhaps 100m or so up (not good at estimating
heights!), were two each, and apparently pairs, of Black and Brown Falcons,
Hobbies and Kestrels! They were not apparently interacting, and were being
generally harassed by ravens, while below miners were going hysterical. They
were not apparently using a thermal, and after a couple of minutes they
'broke up' and drifted off in different directions.
I am astonished and perplexed - and very pleased!
