birding-aus Well, even I have to concede that autumn, that forebearer of the nightmare that haunts all northerners in Melbourne - winter, is here. On my usual lunch-time stroll through Fitzroy Gardens, in East Melbourne I heard a familiar old friend. On inspection I found two Rufous Fantails in the "rainforest' gully along with two Grey Fantails. Neither were present yesterday. These birds are obviously gearing up for their (rather sensible) migration north. Also building up in numbers over the past couple of weeks are Magpie-larks. Alas, autumn is here. Looking forward the forecast last burst of summer on the weekend. (stop gloating Michael Todd!).
