To encourage this young girl's interest in birds, it would be very beneficial
to join BOCA and BA, and receive their magazines, and for father and daughter
to read them together. This would help not only with knowledge of birds, but
also of reading and promote a wonderful parent-child bond. Borrowing bird
videos and watching them together would be fun and educational.
Even more value would be gained by going on lots of outings to birding spots
like local parks and in the Melbourne area places like Warrandyte, Westerfolds,
Jells Park, Braeside, Cardinia, and Dandenong Ranges. The You Yangs and
Western Treatment Plant (permit required) are wonderful for easy viewing of a
wide variety of species. Just take binoculars, field guide, a picnic and loads
of enthusiasm.
