Penny, Carol and other birders visiting the northern Wollemi

The Hunter Bird Observers Club would be very interested in getting any
records you might have for the northern end of the Wollemi for their annual
Bird Reports The "Hunter region" takes in the shires of Muswellbrook and
Denman etc. The adjoining Rylstone Shire is NOT in the Hunter. The shire
boundary is very close to Coricudgy and many of my 1997 records were just
within the Hunter boundary and included birds not often reported within the
Hunter region.

This is a fascinating area and well worth the visit. Another interesting
area is the "Sandy Camp" area between Rylstone and the Widden Valley,
accessed from the west through Nullo Mountain. There are locked gates at
the park boundary either end and prior arrangements must be made, enquire
at NPWS, Mudgee (although you might be disappointed if you don't have a
good reason - a bird survey supplied to NPWS might be enough to get you
through). This area traverses another Basalt cap but, unlike Coricudgy, is
predominantly White Box and is still treacherous in the wet.
