Hi Mike,
At 5 Islands Nature Reserve off Wollongong both "Tip' and "oceanic" SG's
breed. It is a joke among SOSSA (Southern Ocean Seabird Study Association)
members that you can tell this birds apart by their plumage (ie black vs white,
)
islands are off Port Kembla, home to Southern Copper and BHP!
But as you describe, I have often thrown hot chips etc to the thousands of
gulls
on Big Island here and received no response. However, in saying this the stuff
that some birds have thrown up on me when handling them indicates that at
least some birds ion the island are definitely tip gulls!
Cheers, Paul
