Dear Participants in the 4th NTT World Bird Count,
We have finally completed adding up all the birding reports you kindly
sent us for the forth "NTT World Bird Count" and are pleased to announce
here the remarkable results.
Thanks to the participation and cooperation of so many people around the
world, our birding event in 1998 has turned out to be great success, as
you see from the results shown below. We extend our deep gratitude to
all of the participants, both individuals and organizations, who
contributed to the outstanding outcome.
Number of reported bird species: 5,744 (5,935)
Number of participants: 112,161 (184,376)
Number of countries/regions from which birdwatching lists were
reported: 94 (88)

According to the results, NTT will make a contribution of 5,000,000 Yen
to Bird Life International to help its conservation activities, and you
can see how and where the contribution will be used.

analytic results are to be provided one after another.
Now we are thinking out to make this event more meaningful and
enjoyable in the future for the benefit of birds and the environment.
For this purpose we would be most pleased to have your suggestion or
comments on how we can develop the event, such as whether you think
the event period or way of participation is appropriate, or what kinds of
contents you would like to see in the results page. Please contact us
