birding-aus
Further to the moonlight-bird behaviour thread from last week, a colleague
of mine who has studied owls in Victoria (Aust.) has the following comments
when I requested his experience on this issue. Bend of Isles is a site on
the Yarra River ne of Melbourne.

I have almost no experience of watching Sooty Owls on moonlight
nights. I can't really comment on PO calling behaviour on
moonlight nights either although my general impression is
that it has little effect one way or the other but it depends on
the season of course (more vocal during breeding season). Adult
pair under observation at Bend of Islands over the past 3 months
call very little in the early evening but the single remaining
young is very vocal often trilling an hour before sunset while
roosting close to or even in the same tree as one or both adults.
