Hi,
This reminds me a bit of a female Ring-necked Pheasant I flushed near
Kinglake about 1996. It seemed timid as could be, and I had a lot of trouble
relocating the bird to confirm ID. After doing so, I did a bit of
door-knocking in the local area, and found the the owner of a property about
100 yards ago had just bought a pair of Ring-necked Pheasants, which had
escaped as soon as they were placed in their pen (it turned out that they
were capable of flying, he wasn't expecting that). The male met with a
sticky end immediately (it unwisely landed next to a dog) but the female
seemed shrewder, and it remained in the area for a couple of months before I
lost track of it.
