I believe a Pheasant Coucal once turned up in Kalgoorlie - best explanation, it flew into a long-distance truck, got caught in bull-bar or radiator, and when found several thousand miles later was dumped in gutter. My own example was a Red-capped Robin, fine male but rather knocked about, found in Greville St, Prahran just across road from Andrew Isles bookshop 2 or 3 years ago! There was quite a lot of hay or straw chucked on the road too. I hope you forwarded your Boobook to museum or wildlife authorities? Never move without a few plastic bags! and if need be, to quote Ken Simpson, adopt new olfactory standards! Best wishes, Anthea Fleming in Melbourne. |
