Tim Reid has pointed out to me that the original specimen of this group was taken at sea and is therefore not certainly attributable to the Gough/Tristan population. Consequently, the interim taxonomy adopted by Environment Australia uses Diomedea dabennena for the Tristan Albatross (1 Australian Record) and leaves D. exulans for the Wandering Albatross. The name Snowy Albatross D. chionoptera is thus redundant.......... for now! cheers Milburn Dr.Peter Milburn Biomolecular Resource Facility The Australian National University GPO Box 334 Canberra ACT 0200 AUSTRALIA Phone No. <61> <2> 6249 4326 Fax No. <61> <2> 6249 4326 E-mail Address |
