Some English birders at present in Victoria are hoping to see the following
birds before they leave to go home at the end of the year. The birds have
to be in or near Victoria as they are working and have only weekends to go
and look for them.
Can anyone help?
Little Bittern
Square tailed Kite
Baillon's Crake (there is one at Belmont Common near Geelong but it is not
in the usual place which is too wet, and its new place is very very
difficult. Neither we nor the Twitchathon winners got one at Bendigo Sewage
Farm though the water level seems to be dropping and it may soon be
suitable again. We did not see any at Werribee - has anyone else recently?)
Painted Snipe
White-winged Black Tern (none at Hospital Lake near Geelong yet - or up to
last week anyhow. Lawrie Conole et al had one at Werribee on Twitchathon
Day but maybe there is an easier way than looking for one among several
hundred Whiskered Terns)
White-headed Pigeon
White-throated Nightjar - too soon? when do they come back?
White-throated Needletail - not yet I assume
Also King Quail
Red-chested Button-Quail
Thanks a lot. Last time I did this my visitors got wonderful information.
