We all experience times of delight when out birdwatching.
But we also have times when what we do not see is quite
notable.
Last Sunday my wife and I drove from Peterborough in the
mid-north of SA to Murray Bridge via Clare and Gawler. We saw the usual
species one would expect while driving in country SA - plenty of Galahs, ravens,
magpies, sparrows, starlings, magpie larks, kestrals, a few pipits, crested
pigeons, red wattlebirds etc.
During the entire 290km journey I did not see any Willie
Wagtails.
Conditions were mild (about 20C), slight breeze, clear sky and
bright sunshine.
