In reply to my recent RFI on Central Asian birds I had some very generous
and helpful replies, particularly from John Penhallurick (from his
WorldBirdPlus package), from Chris Padley (using a propietary copy of
Birdrecorder), from Santa Barabara Software products (their package is
BirdBase/BirdArea), and from Steve Clark (commenting on his recent trip to
an adjacent area of China - Xinjiang). Alternate taxonomic arrangements
notwithstanding, it's clearly necessary to access different sources, as
there was a 5-15% difference in species on the lists from each source.
Added to that I've done some literature and internet searching, and have
produced state lists for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and
Turkmenistan, plus a regional Turkestan list (excluding Tajikistan, but
including selected regional mammals).
So if anyone is interested in a Turkestan checklist (MS Word 6.0 format),
let me know and I'll send it on. Of course you'll want to check out what
lovely birds I'll be seeing in June next year <grin>.
Cheers
