BLACK-EARED MINER VOLUNTEER FIELD ASSISTANTS REQUIRED.
This is a unique opportunity to participate in ornithological research on
Australia's rarest mainland bird species.
Activities: participants will gain experience in radio tracking,
mist-netting, censussing, behaviour observations and data entry.
Personal qualities required: easy going and equable temperament; ability to
enjoy life in an isolated and challenging environment; ability to work
co-operatively and under direction as part of a team; ability to keep
detailed records.
Desirable previous experience: fieldwork (birds, flora/fauna); camping,
outdoors; navigation; first aid. A drivers licence is required.
Location: Birds Australia Gluepot Reserve or Calperum Outstation, north of
Waikerie and Renmark SA.
Duration: Three people for six to eight weeks (September 19th to November
30th 1998), one person for ten weeks (September 19th to mid December 1998)
or part thereof (pref. given to those who can volunteer for the full duration).
Expenses: food costs provided.
Accommodation: shearers' quarters.
