'Tis lovely weather for tree planting, and enjoying the box-ironbark
country. This weekend presents an opportunity to do both at Lurg, two and
a half hours from Melbourne. Participate in a tree planting project aimed
at restoring habitat for Regent Honeyeaters, Grey-crowned Babblers and
other endangered box-ironbark critters. Tens of thousands of trees have
already been planted in this large scale, ambitious and well thought out
project.
Dates: 22/23 August
Meeting Place: Benalla Post Office at 9AM or Winton Roadhouse at 9.30AM.
Planting to start at 10AM
Accommodation: Free accommodation at Benalla airfield on Saturday night.
Hot showers, kitchen facilities and mattresses supplied. BYO sleeping bag
and pillow.
Meals: BYO lunch for Saturday. Casseroles and pizzas for dinner Saturday
night. BYO breakfast for Sunday morning. Eating gear supplied at airfield
mess hall. Free BBQ lunch in the bush on Sunday.
Activities: Guided wildflower walk in the bush on Sunday PM. Woolshed
dance on Saturday night.
