ERINA AND CAREEL BAY, NSW- 19TH JULY 1998 My highlights for the following 2 areas are as follows: 1) ERINA (west of Gosford on the NSW Central Coast)- 15 Regent Bowerbirds (including 2 adult males), several Green Catbirds, Emerald Dove, 15 White-headed Pigeons, Wonga Pigeon, tame Brown Cuckoo-doves, Brown and Grey Goshawks and many Yellow-throated Scrubwrens mimicking the calls of Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo's, Grey shrike-thrushes, Grey Fantail, satin bowerbirds etc. 2) CAREEL BAY (Avalon, Sydney) - 3 Bush Stone-curlews, 3 Eastern Curlew, 3-4 Mangrove Gerygones (Sydney is possibly the southern limit for this species. These Warblers were singing and enticed at close range by squeaking), 2 Sacred Kingfisher (over-wintering), a male Rose Robin in Mangroves. A male White-headed Pigeon was also seen perched in a Eucalypt beside Mona Vale Rd at Ingleside. Another enjoyable day of birding with plenty of variety... Edwin Vella |
