Dear Aus-birders
I am visiting Australia for a couple of months at the end of the year
and will have from late November (27) to early January (6) to bird and
holiday. I will have spent some time in Northern Queensland, north of
Cairns in October and November and will start my trip in Cairns on the
27th November or so. I am in the very preliminary stages of planning
the trip and would appreciate a little help to get some direction in my
life (Australia is a big place with lots of good looking birds).
What I would like some advice on is whether it would be possible to
travel from Brisbane to Adelaide by road (hire car) and get some good
birding in along the way in three weeks. I have some approximate dates
around the 1st to 22/23 December to do this trip. I have no idea or any
knowledge of the areas to visit (I have ordered Bransbury) but am
judging the trip on the distribution maps in the bird books. I propose
to start in Lamington National Park but beyond that everything is open
to suggestion. Could you recommend places to visit along the way to
pick up the important birds or alternatively suggest a broad itinerary
to follow.
>From Adelaide I fly to Darwin for 5 days (to get exceedingly wet it
seems to me) and then onto Perth for 8 days of Western Australian
birding from the 30th December to the 7th January. I would certainly
appreciate any info on birding hotspots in these areas.
Thanks for all your help
Regards
