Thanks to those who replied to my RFI on seeing Purple Crowned Lorikeets
as well as hearing them. I had best results yesterday at 8 am, about 1
hour after sunrise, when a flock were in a compact group of flowering
mallees. (When food trees are seperated by 20 m of understorey shrubs
its very frustrating to approach a tree and have the birds leave just as
they come into view!) The technique involved a. making a conscious
effort to ignore the to-ings and fro-ings of White plumed h/eaters and
b. remaining focussed on "my" tree even when most of the flock of
lorikeets took off in their usual attention-grabbing, noisy fashion. A
couple remained behind and I had excellent views of them.
Regards, Anne
