Highlights from twice-weekly Canberra Ornithologists' Group (COG) hotline,
for week ending 19 June (some reports are of earlier obs).
Slow time of year (for birdos too - we've just had 100mm of rain in 4 days,
maximum yesterday of 6 degrees, all the major highways into the city cut by
snow yesterday....) Despite that...
FUSCOUS & WHITE-NAPED HEs still regular reports of 'hangers-on'
FRECKLED DUCKS! 14/6 2 at Kellys Swamp, suburban Jerrabomberra
[celebrating its 'reopening' after 5 dry months! This is the first ACT
record I know of since Feb 1992]
WHITE-HEADED PIGEONS still hanging around suburban Waramanga
BLACK PELICAN at least one, perhaps two, around suburban lakes [virtually
all black-dark grey, including bill and legs; one suggestion that it may be
oil-stained is firmly rejected by nearly all observers]
