Dear All

Yesterday, mid afternoon, I spent one and half hours birding at Castlereagh
NR and was pleased to find about 8 adult Regent Honeyeaters still present
about track 27 (very close to the spot where I first saw them a few weeks
ago). They were still very noticeable with their beautiful notes and bill
clapping aswell as their aggressiveness to other Honeyeaters including
themselves. Their calls are very varied at times, and one of their calls is
a mewing sound like a kitten which I have heard and seen them actually
produce this sound, during the 4 occasions I have seen them here. Also here
feeding on the fresh nectar of a few trees, were 10 Little Lorikeets, plus
all the regular Honeyeaters. A Dusky Woodswallow or 2 were also about
aswell. There, however seems to be considerably less activity than a few
weeks ago. With most of the nectar drying up these Regent Honeyeaters will
probably depart and may never return for atleast another 10 years in this
area (who knows !).

I also spent Saturday morning at Towra Point beside Botany Bay, but could
not find the Blue-winged Parrots (there is so much habitat for these
parrots, though I thought I did hear them briefly). Has anyone been luck to
find them recently ?. I did see a flock of about 50 White-fronted Chats and
saw lots of Raptors about there.
