Had the good fortune to be on the NSW Central Coast earlier this week. The
Swamp Mahogany was flowering very well in many places while at others there
was little blossom. These latter sites tended to be east of the lakes, ie
closer to the coast, and may have suffered more from heavy rain.
Where there was good flowering the trees were alive with immense numbers of
honeyeaters and lorikeets. These are excellent starting points when
looking for Regent Honeyeaters and Swift Parrots. Regents are still at
Wyee and I have just been informed that there are around Narrabeen Lagoon
on Sydney's north shore and at Terrigal on the Central Coast. If the suns
shining and the weather warm what better way to spend the weekend than to
go looking for your own Regent Honeyeaters or Swift Parrots. If you don't
find them I think I can guarantee a good days birding anyway.
