On a much lower level from the discussion that has been going on recently:

we have Crimson Rosellas around at the moment that are so pale a shade of
red they are really Scarlet Rosellas; are these youngsters getting their red
for the first time, or is this what adults look like after their moult, and
I've never noticed before?

ps could someone explain to a non-mathematician what an asymptote is, my
dictionaries aren't much help in this regard.
