I have seen this behaviour in South Island Pied Oystercatchers on short grass in an urban park in Dunedin, SI. It was after a period of rain, and I surmised that the birds, all of which in the flock were doing this, were trying to persuade the earthworms that the rain was still continuing. ############################################# John Leonard (Dr), PO Box 243, Woden, ACT 2606 'He look for righteousness, and behold, bloodshed; He looked for justice, and behold, a cry.' the 1st Isaiah http://www.spirit.net.au/~jleonard ############################################# |
