Dear Birders,

Last week 15/4/98 I observed a single White-Fronted Honeyeater at
Stoneleigh HS, 8km north of Lucindale in the SE of SA. This is well south
of its normal range in South Australia.

This district has been quite dry for over 6 months, as has the area to the
north.
The following were flowering; Banksia ornata, Banksia marginata and
Melaleuca lanceolata but I can't remember which it was feeding upon.

Many other honeyeaters were present, including:
Red Wattlebird
Brush Wattlebird
Spiny-Cheeked Honeyeater
Noisy Miner
Yellow-Faced Honeyeater
White-Eared Honeyeater
White-Plumed Honeyeater
New Holland Honeyeater
Tawny-Crowned Honeyeater

I also saw large numbers of Eastern and Crimson Rosellas and flocks of up
to 40 Musk Lorikeets.

Happy birding,

Trevor Hampel
