To my human senses, a male Satin Bowerbird has the most exquisitely beautiful eyes of any birds I have seen. Their lovely violet colour seems a perfect accessory to his handsome plumage. So I wonder if female SBBs also find the colour attractive, and that is why it has evolved. Or is there some other physiological explanation? Can anyone comment? Syd Curtis at Hawthorne in Qld.
