It's not just the birds, it's the setting in which you see them, the sounds
they make and the people you're with when you see them. Some favourites:

* Beautiful Firetails feeding after a bushfire in the scrub at Mallacoota
* Saffron robed monks, Japanese honeymooners, German backpackers and all
the Australians gazing out over the Bass Straits from the stands waiting
for the fairy penguins to come onto the beach at sunset (gives you hope for
the world!)
* A Yellow Robin clinging sideways on a trunk on any bushwalk you might
chance to take in Victoria
* Catbirds meowing, Rifle birds rifling and Lyrebirds calling as you walk
through the rainforest
* Bright black and yellow Regent Bowerbirds at O'Reilly's with Mike
O'Reilly giving a delighful commentary
* Josh Dein instantaneously leading us to a tiny Grey Fantail's nest even
though his experience was exclusively North American
* Catching waders with Clive Minton and the gang
* Blue wrens brighting up any campground
* Long-billed Corellas flying in front of a rainbow in the Western District
* Tawny Frogmouths nesting outside the kitchen window looking like branches
* Elegant parrots against the backdrop of the Finders Ranges
* Orange-bellieds, bird watchers and golfers peacefully sharing space on
Swan Island
* White-faced Herons taking off on a misty morning

Sorry....couldn't stop at 8!
