Hi everyone,
You probably heard about the Cairns Crocodile Farm and its great Bird List
by now. Well, next to Innisfail (80 km south of Cairns) is another Croc
Farm, called 'Johnstone River Crocodile Farm'. It hasn't got quite the
number and species of birds, probably due to the lack of extensive wetlands
and mangroves, but on the lily-covered ponds, which are much more open than
the Cairns ones, the White-browed Crakes are quite common and easily seen
plus permanent Little Kingfishers. The usual Finches (Crimson, Red-browed)
and Honeyeaters (Yellow, Brown, Brown-backed) are also present.
If you get really desperate or if you are on the way to Mission Beach to
see the Cassowary, you might want to drop in.
It's signposted from the highway, the location is Flying Fish Point Road
and the admission is $ 10.00 (One Dollar cheaper than the Cairns Croc Farm).
Happy Birding, Klaus
