My findings as to ease or difficulty of sightings of crakes & rails is:

Easy to see: the gallinules

Hard to see:  all the other &@!#%! species of them!  (although I agree
with Paul Osborn's comments that, a couple of years ago during drought,
Baillon's Crake was easy to find at the Shortland Wetlands Centre in
Newcastle)

As to Syd Curtis's question about which rail is the least shy in NSW,
the answer is obvious - StateRail.
