Is there an unusual southern movement of Channel-billed Cuckoos this year, or is it just my ignorance of the beast? I ventured to the Blue Mountains with a group last weekend, and saw one CBC over the highway at Campbelltown, then 3 (bellowing, chasing, being harassed by Noisy Miners) in the Blue Mtns NP at Glenbrook. Perhaps this is normal; what is NOT normal is the appearance of one over suburban Canberra (Latham) a few days ago. On another note; I run the Canberra Ornithologists Group's Birdwatchers Hotline. Would there be any interest in a weekly(-ish!) posting of highlights for the region? (And for Canberrans, this is not directed to you - you're supposed to ring it!!!)
