Hi everybody -
I have had a request from David Roshier of Charles Sturt University to
locate some Freckled Ducks, preferably in NSW, for radio-tracking.
David is mapping water distribution in arid Australia across a range of
spatial and temporal scales, and relating this to waterbird distribution
patterns and movements. He wants to put transmitters on six Freckled Ducks,
a bird adapted to the erratic fluctuations of water distribution in inland
Australia, to track their movements. This could give us information useful
to the conservation management of a protected species which is highly
vulnerable to accidental (and criminally negligent) shooting during duck
hunting seasons.
If anyone knows of a site currently holding some Freckled Ducks (in NSW if
possible) where they can be safely cannon-netted, please get in touch with
David directly at <>, tel: (02) 6933 2538, fax: (02)
6933 2737. Failing a suitable site in NSW, David is interested in
information on sites elsewhere.
Regards, Hugo.
