D. L. SERVENTY MEDAL:
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
The outstanding contribution made to Australasian ornithology by Dr D.L.
Serventy is commemorated by the award known as the D.L. Serventy Medal.
1. The award of the D.L. Serventy Medal is based solely on an assessment of
a nominee's published scientific contribution to Australasian ornithology,
and is not necessarily made each year.
2. The award takes the form of a medallion, suitably inscribed to show the
name of the recipient and the year in which the award has been made.
3. The award is available only to living past or present members of Birds
Australia (RAOU), who must be proposed and seconded by two other members.
4. Nominations of this award are solicited annually by way of advertisement
in the March issues of Emu and Wingspan.
5. The proposer of a nominee for this award must submit a written statement,
outlining the scientific contributions that the nominee has made to
Australasian ornithology, supported by a curriculum vitae, list of
publications and the names of three referees.
6. Decisions regarding nominees will be made by the Birds Australia Council,
and based on recommendations made by a sub-committee comprising the three
most senior medallists, currently Ian Rowley (Chairman), John Warham and
Hugh Ford.
7. The medallion will be presented by the President of Birds Australia at
the first available scientific day.
Nominations for the 1998 medal are called for now and should be sent to:
Ian Rowley, PO Box 269, Guildford, WA 6935
