Congratulations to the winning Victorian Twitchathon team, "The Very
Serious Birdwatchers" on 195 species, followed by "The Brush Turkeys" on
193 ..... and then us, "The Common Driving-petrolheads" on 188
(penalised for lateness to 187!!). Overall, totals were lower than last
year (although the first & third placegetters both made big improvements
on previous best results), probably due in large part to the
unseasonally hot and windy conditions, but a few nice birds were seen
nonetheless.

After a gruelling 24 hours, I was too tired to sleep last night, and did
some brief cataloguing of our results. A few wierd omissions as usual
(perhaps exacerbated this year by the weather), but our highlights
included a Southern Whiteface feeding a young Black-eared Cuckoo
(Terrick Terrick), a Ruff and White-winged Black Terns (Hospital Swamp),
a flock of Satin Bowerbirds near Lorne, lots of crakes at Bendigo
Sewerage Farm, lots of Red-kneed Dotterels at Hospital Swamp, huge flock
of Red-necked Avocets at Werribee (with a few Glossy Ibis mixed in),
etc. .... also a few nice "sets", such as thornbills (7 species) and
honeyeaters (19 species).

Here's our list for your interest ........
