>Hi Woody
I spent a little time at Round Hill on September 23-5.
Weather was windy and a bit wet so birds were a little quiet.
First camping area was good for scrubrobin, bar shouldered dove,
white-eared, spinycheeked and yellow plumed honeyeater.
On your walk down to the fenced field many birds appear to cross the road-I
say rufous whistler, weebill, splendid wren, western gerygone, inland
thornbill, red capped robin, mulga parrot. On the corner of the field
where the track goes to the second camp site[ a shooters gallery
apparently]. Along this track there was considerable bird activity, due to
more shelter from the wind...here I saw chestnut quail-thrush, gilberts and
red-lored whistler, scrub robin, shy hyacola and many of the above mallee
birds. The track meanders for quite a way and is worth a wander.
Recently others have also found interesting species along the sealed road
back to Lake Cargellico;crimson and orange chats, pink cockatoos etc; at
the base of Roundhill itself there could be striated grasswrens in the
porcupine grass; it was too cold for them to show when I was there; there
are blue faced honeyeaters in the trees around Lake Cargellico on the town
side.
I know the Hattah/Murray Sunset/Little Desert Mallee so let me know if you
still are needing some of these species.
This message might be useful to my friends from Plains Wanderer weekend who
are heading to Roundhill in November.
Good luck
