Dear Folks

Before get carried away with more unrealistic proposals, I suggest people
interested in the subject to read about the subject. There is a new report
out from the Biodiversity Group the federal agency in Canberra, prepared by
by Newsome et al. Feb 1997. from CISRO and Uni. of Sydney. Newsome is the
person to consult on this subject!. One interesting aspect is that rabbits
and foxes are the main factor of the extinction of medium sized marsupials
in areas of semi arid parts of the central and southern areas. The cat which
occurs both in Tasmania and Northern Australia has not so far lead to
specific extinctions, so far I know. The presence of the cat in Tasmania is
a less of a problem that the Fox/Rabbit in Flinters ranges and central Qld.
Regardless of what we do the cat will live in the outback and breed. In a
distant future they will envolve into new tigers in order to prey on large
Kangaroos. The damage has been done 200 years ago and we must establish
special reserve as ECO-SANCTUARIES which keep the ferals out. Another feral
species far potent than the cat is Woody Weeds. There is some evidence that
increased carbon dixoide fertlise the growth of Woody Weeds which will
endanger the outback's wildlife.

We also should worry more about the haze & fires in Indoneesia. Migrating
birds including our waders are falling out of the sky dead !! Fronteer
Capitalism, Greed and Cooruption (Large Plantation and Timber Estate barons
are the bad gus) is a much larger problem than population growth and to
desex humans will not solve this problem. Another huge problem is John
Howard and his cabinet an oldfashioned, hardheaded, backward minded, ratback
leadership who refuses to act on the Greenhouse Emissions. The great fires
in Asia is likely to come back as the greenhose effect might enhance the El
Nino event. This is however disputed, but do we want to play russian
roulette with planet Earth? I am sure that the greenhouse effect will kill
us in the end.

PS I do not have a cat nor children, but of different reasons.
