Good morning (or afternoon or eveving),

Glen Ingram mentioned the upcoming BIG SIT (Oct. 19), in which a team
records all species seen/heard from within a 17 ft. diameter circle.

>Coming up, we have a team "The Maneaters" in the USA run BIG SIT (17ft
>diameter circle). Are any other Aussie teams in this?

Susan and I participated in the BIG SIT last year, having our circle in our
front yard which overlooks the shallow end of a lake. We will also be
participating this year from our yard. Last year, we recorded 54 species
for the day and we hope to top that this year. It's a lot of fun, and for
us, it was nice to be able participate and still enjoy the amenities of
home. Of course, the east/west coastal teams tend to have the highest
totals.

Just three weeks ago, we recorded the 200th species from our yard (in
slightly less than two years), a female Hooded Warber, the 29th warbler
species on our list.

We love our home and it's nice to be able to do some quality birding so
close to home. Of course, it's also great to travel once in a while also!

....Jim
