Apologies Birdingaussers, I forgot overseas members would not know the SMH is the Sydney Morning Herald, Australia's largest newspaper. The rest of the details are: 14 July 1997. It was in the "Features" section, page 11. There was also a front page article that led into this article. Unfortunately, SMH didn't archive the article on its webpage, thus the significance of Audra Topping typing it up for us for posting (she can be thanked on Greg Roberts, the author, besides being an over-paid journalist with Fairfax, is a well-known twitcher and a member of the 700 club.
