NB If you're busy, don't waste time on this!!
While on a very recent and delicious trip to far north and west Qld, I may
have set a somewhat Bazarre record. I must surely be the only Oz birdo to
reach 530+ spp WITHOUT ever seeing a Pacific Baza!
Yes, I KNOW they're common - on the occasions when I use an established
campground, there's always a resident pair around - except today.... And I
KNOW they're easy - you'd be amazed (no, you probably wouldn't!!) how many
people have them regularly coming to their bird baths etc...
But you can bet that where I am, the little Bazards aren't!
Maybe others have such ornitho-mysteries? I recall that John Leonard was
recently asking after Ground Cuckoo-shrikes. I expect to see them whenever I
go west; on the other hand I'm sure that John (along with all the rest of
you) sees Bazas every time he goes north-east of here!
Perhaps I'm being punished for my recidivism in still calling them "Crested
Hawks"!!
Yours dis-Bazaedly
Ian
PS It's been 10 degrees and raining for a few days in Canberra, which may go
some way to explaining why I'm wasting your and my time like this!
