My own copy still has not arrived in the mail, but I had a fairly good
look through one at a bookshop in the city today. My personal views
about the Simpson/Day book are reasonably well known, but now I'd say
archive or burn your S/D - the new P/K book looks every bit as pretty
(if not prettier; courtesy of better art & design). The plates are
excellent - very easy to look at (uncluttered). Spotting any
inaccuracies will have to wait until a really detailed examination is
possible. The information in the text is cut down from the old Pizzey,
but is still miles better than anything else on offer. The only thing
Slater has going for it now is its convenient "pocketable" size. The
new P/K is a bigger book (in all dimensions) than its two main
competitors. The cover is plastic (good idea). It appears at first
glance to be well worth the wait.
