I don't know the first thing about golf so I don't pretend to be an
expert but I have a feeling that it is probably impossible to make
generalisations about golf courses.Sure there are some courses where
species are actually preserved by,or are at least present in,such
courses,but that could not be used as a justification to make more of
them(not that anyone is saying that here-but they may be in some
quarters).Such cases would invariably be matters of pure chance rather
than design.In places like Australia or South Africa there is marginal
farmland that can be utilised,but in many countries such as Japan there
is no such thing.Virtually ALL land is being used,in fact many people in
Japan maintain that the biggest conservation problem in that country is
the construction of golf courses.And you think we've got problems!
Sorry,my experiences in Japan make me quite heated on this subject!I
must add I have nothing against golf,I just think that all things in
moderation is a good adage in the case...
