Over the weekend I took part in the Orange-bellied Parrot (OBP) survey,
covering the Cheetham salt works at Laverton (between Altona and Point
Cook on the western shore of Port Phillip Bay). We failed to find any
OBPs but had an enjoyable days bird-watching recording 50 species.

The highlight was a single Terek Sandpiper seen foraging, with a group
of Red-capped Plovers among the seaweed deposited along the high tide
line. I know this species is fairly regular in northern Australia, but
none of my books indicate how rare this species is in Victoria. Can
anybody enl;ighten me?

cheers

Roger
