Dear Stewart,

I agree with Shane's comment about Rottnest Island. Just in case you have not 
seen it, 
there is a book about birds of Rottnest Island, which is certainly worth a read:

Saunders, D. & de Rebeira, P. (1993). Birds of Rottnest Island (Published by 
the 
authors, Guildford). 2d edition.

I'm not sure how extensively this publication is available, but it can be 
purchased from 
the Rottnest Island Tourist Shop.
