On the evening of Friday 14th February the plovers had moved to a different roost at cattle were grazing in their original roost. If you follow Richard's directions and then walk straight down to the bay, turn left along the beach and go through two fences. The plovers were roosting around the next major point, in the short grass just back from the edge. It appeared to be easier to sneak up on them on the other side of a ridge that runs roughly parallel to the coast and then inch forward over the ridge towards them. If you move slowly with frequent stops they don't appear to mind and will let you come reasonably close (especially on hands and knees :-)). Tania. |
